A celestial journey is what Sun Ra and His Arkestra created with Space is the Place. Sun Ra’s opus, at its simplest, is a trip through outer-bound melodies, planetary bodies, eras in time, crystals, and space caravans. You will be transported a world away!

The film soundtrack of SPACE IS THE PLACE is an entirely different journey than the identically titled 1973 Blue Thumb LP. The latter project was an audio-only vinyl platter; the 1972 sessions were produced for use in the soundtrack of the James Coney-directed film SPACE IS THE PLACE.

This remastered, expanded reissue of the original soundtrack album, first issued in 1993 on the Evidence label, features an album's worth of previously unissued recordings from the same 1972 film soundtrack sessions.

This expanded edition also features The Mathematics of the Altered Destiny, a second previously unissued album recorded at the same soundtrack sessions, now first released half a century after being recorded. These newly discovered tracks, courtesy of Michael D. Anderson's Sun Ra Music Archive, are heavy on the prose of Sun Ra, as he and the Arkestra's Saturnian Queen June Tyson bestow countless bits of wisdom, apocrypha, mystery, and inspiration upon the listener.

The 2023 expanded edition of SPACE IS THE PLACE: THE FILM SOUNDTRACK is also available from Modern Harmonic on 2CD, 3LP, and DVD (catalog MH-8267).
